On this occasion, we explore the impact of our actions on marine ecosystems through different activities. At Greenevents, we have the challenge of raising awareness and training through team building activities to reduce Your Carbon Footprint in the Ocean: Impact and Solutions. How do the decisions made here affect marine life? Join us on this blog!
What is a carbon footprint in the ocean?
To begin, it’s important to know what a carbon footprint is: it refers to the amount of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2), that we emit and that are absorbed by the oceans. Although the ocean naturally absorbs CO2, the excess we generate is altering its chemistry, a phenomenon known as ocean acidification.
What actions can reduce our carbon footprint?
In team building with Greenevents Barcelona, we are deeply committed to reflecting and learning more about this topic and being agents of change. So, what did we learn?
- CO2 is like a ghost: We discovered that using dirty fuels increases CO2 in the water, making the sea more acidic. This affects marine animals, almost giving them a constant headache!
- Trash, a huge problem: We saw how unrecycled waste ends up in the sea, harming animals and polluting the water.
- There are better options: We also learned that using clean energy and taking care of our trash make a big difference. The ocean looks much happier!

And you, what can you do?
This game got us thinking a lot. And you, what can you do to take care of the ocean? You don’t have to manage a port to make a difference. Here are some ideas:
- Less car, more bike: If you can, use your car less and your bike or public transportation more. You’ll help reduce CO2!
- Recycle and reduce: Separate your trash and buy fewer things that generate waste. The ocean will thank you!
- Tell others: Talk to your friends and family about the importance of taking care of the ocean. Together we can do a lot!
In conclusion, we are all part of this planet, and our actions have a direct or indirect impact. But the ocean teaches us that every decision counts and that the solution lies in the actions we take every day. What decision will you make today to take care of the ocean?
